The Lake Norconian Club Foundation (LNCF) was formed early in 2007 in order to raise awareness of the plight of the Lake Norconian Club and organize an effort to preserve the associated buildings. The Lake Norconian Club consisted of 5 main buildings and a lake built in the late 1920's by Rex B. Clark. The Main building was an exclusive club (hotel), among the grandest in the United States. After the stock market crash of 1929, it fell on hard times as a business. Later, in 1941, all of the buildings were sold to the Federal Government for use as a Naval Hospital. Other buildings were added by the government to provide the necessary services. After the Korean conflict armistice, some of the buildings were transferred to the state of California for use as a rehabilitation center, and, later, a medium security prison. The rest of the buildings and the lake stayed in the hands of the Navy for use as weapons performance analysis. About 5 years ago, the main hotel building, previously used as prison offices and dining hall, was boarded up and the electricity turned off. Time and the weather are taking its toll. Water damage, especially, is damaging artwork that is on some of the walls and ceilings.
Our foundation has two goals. First, to preserve the "Lake Norconian Club" buildings and, second, to eventually restore them, to some degree (if and when they become available).
